Copa de España

This past weekend I had the opportunity to travel and compete in the National Championship for ITF Taekwon-Do in Spain, in Guitiríz, a small town in the middle of nowhere in the region of Galicia. They're doing selections for the World Championships, so there was very good competition in attendance, in spite of there only being about 200 competitors.

I lost in patterns to the eventual winner (who's also placed in many international events), but it was a split decision, so I must not have been far behind. In team patterns, we also lost to the eventual winners, but there were only five teams, the bracket favored us, and somehow we ended up with a third place. Go figure.

Other than the black belt competition Sunday afternoon, I spent the rest of my time as an official. Monday I attended a workout for those looking to get on the Spanish team, though I was just there to have fun.

Overall finding a TKD club here and making more friends and contacts this way has been a great part of my experience abroad.
