In the cd player now....

"Vheissu," the latest album from Thrice. A nice compilation that is quite a departure musically from their last two albums. The sounds show a lot of diversity and willingness to experiment that newer Thrice fans (those who jumped on the bandwagon with "The Artist in the Ambulance") might not like. I can unequivocally say that this is one of the best albums I own.

Instant replay in baseball?

The umpire screw-up in the Angels-ChiSox game the other day brought up the interminable debate, should instant replay be used in baseball? On one hand, if used for a limited amount of calls, it could be helpful. As an intramural sports official last year who worked a few kickball games (which, of course, makes me qualified to assess the issue), calling someone out or safe during a close play is difficult. Instant replay could help correct the inevitable mistakes.

But on the other hand, why slow down a game that's already #$!@ing boring? Unless they're looking to raise concessions revenue, because if IR in baseball was anything like the NFL, fans would have plenty of time to get another beer and not miss anything.

Hockey!

Hockey season starts tonight, with all 30 teams playing. Though I won't see much of the Avs this year on TV in DC, I'm still giddy as a schoolboy.
